How
can I check my email when dialed up to the Internet from
another Provider (i.e. Mindspring, MSN, AT&T) ? |
 |
|
In
your email package, specify your domain's mail server
(i.e. mail.nbc13.com) as the Incoming, or "POP3"
server. Use your login name. For Outgoing, or "SMTP" server,
you . Use the mail server of the
service to which you are dialed up. Don't assume that
it is mail.theprovider.com - they may be using a different
type of mail server than we do. (i.e. pop3.the provider.com,
or mail3.theprovider.com..) |

When
I am at home or out of town, dialing up from another provider,
why can't I send mail ? |
 |
|
If
you are dialed up to another provider and are using the
Internet settings you were given for your domain, you
can still check your mail, but our network will not allow
sendmail requests from an unauthorized Network. This is
an effort to protect our clients mail servers from being
"hijacked" - mail can be sent through your server and
you can be "framed" for the offense. For example, Hotmail's
mail server was recently "hijacked" and thousands of users
were spammed. By all appearances, the guilty party appeared
to be Hotmail itself. For your company's protection. when
you to dial in from a network other than your office or
InLine, we require you to use a local mail server
to send mail. (see above) |
